How Much Will a FrostBoss® Frost Fan Cost?

To work out how much your fans will cost, we first need to come out for a visit. We'll chat with you to work out what you need for best coverage of your crops, then map out where fans need to be placed for best effect.

Once we've chatted and seen what we need to cover, that'll help us determine the type of fan you need, and how many we recommend to give you the most protection within your budget.

We'll provide you with a quote following our visit, along with recommendations for site preparation. Our quotes include most elements required, we've included a breakdown of what is included below so you can compare against any competitor quotes.

Our Best-selling blades

4-Blade Features

Operating at 1760rpm with a fan speed of 418rpm, it covers 6-8 hectares with noise levels as low as 51dB at 300m, consuming 21 litres per hour for optimal efficiency and coverage.

Our quietest blades

5-Blade Features

Running at 1800rpm with a fan speed of 365rpm, it covers 6-8 hectares with noise levels of 50dB at 300m, consuming just 20 litres per hour for maximum quiet performance.

Time to upgrade?

4-Blade Upgrade Features

Upgrade your alloy blades to composite C49 blades for enhanced efficiency and extended lifespan. Convert your 2-blade frost fan to a 4-blade system with C49 composite blades to maximise performance, or choose the C39 3-blade conversion for systems where gearbox ratios limit a full upgrade to C49.

FrostBoss® Optimal Blades.

Be sure to check your quote has the following features included. You’ll need to purchase them for your frost fan to perform.
Feature
Benefit
FrostBoss®
Fuel efficiency
Lower operating costs eg a FrostBoss C49 (4-blade) uses 21 litres/hour of diesel. By comparison some 2-blade machines are using approx. 38 litres/hour.
Noise emissions
We are confident the FrostBoss® C49 andC59 fans have the lowest noise emissions of any fan covering the same area. The C49 produces 51dB @ 300 metres and theC59 produces 50dB @ 300 metres. Orchard-Rite claims their M2430 tri-blade model produces only 49dBA @ 300 metres. We have two separate noise reports which measured this machine at 55dBA @ 300 metres.
Coverage area
On the face of it, FrostBoss® frost fans may cost more than other brands. However, because they boast an industry-leading true coverage area of 6-8 hectares* they usually provide better value on a per hectare basis. FrostBoss® blades are some of the most sophisticatedon the market. The composite fan blades are incredibly strong with an aerodynamicdesign, which makes the entire blade length from hub to tip produce a uniform wind momentum. This optimises the coverage area at an efficient low engine speed of 1750 - 1800rpm at which the maximum torque of the engine is generated. This is a whole topic in itself – we use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to show the benefit of properly-designed, efficient blades.
Auto Start/Stop
We offer Auto Start/Stop at preset temperatures as a standard feature. Some of our competitors offer an initial price for a manual start/stop machine and then charge extra for the Auto Start/Stop option.
Corrosion-resistant powder-coated aluminium engine cabinets
FrostBoss® Frost Fans have corrosion-resistant powder-coated aluminium engine cabinets – we often see other makes with painted steel cabinets which have severely corroded after only 4 or 5 years. This is particularly important if growers are spraying lime-based chemicals.
Hot dipped galvanised
Our towers are hot dipped galvanised so the inside and outside of the tower is protected. We see competitors who paint the exterior only of the tower with no galvanised coating.
Integral fuel tank
FrostBoss® Frost Fans have a 490 litre integral fuel tank. Most other competitors either do not supply the fuel tank (or if they do, it is an additional charge).
Vermin and rodent proof
FrostBoss® engine cabinets are vermin and rodent proof. This prevents wires from being chewed or bird nests creating fires.
Anemometer as standard
We include an anemometer as standard to automatically switch off the machine in winds above 10kph, then restart the fan when the wind drops below 8kph. Some of our competitors offer a cheaper initial price but then charge extra for this.
Wireless canopy probe
The machines have a wireless canopy probe installed at fruit height within 50 metres of the fan. If this fails, there is a backup temperature probe on the fan. We also have a temperature probe at the top of the tower so we can see the strength of inversions
Solar panel
We include a solar panel as standard to trickle charge the battery. Many competitors charge this as an extra option.
Telemetry hardware
We include telemetry hardware for remote monitoring as standard. Many competitors charge extra for this option. NB an annual subscription appliesto subscribe to the customer-specific web app.
